Morfa Bychan Mobile NCI Station is the 3rd station to open in North Wales and the first mobile station for the UK It will be a future model for the NCI. It is positioned on Porthmadog Golf Course above the Powder House on the Glaslyn Estuary. We are grateful to the National Trust who own the land, and the Golf Club who have been so supportive in allowing us to site the Station where it overlooks the area of water which results in the highest number of RNLI rescues in North Wales.

We are currently recruiting and training volunteers to become Watchkeepers at the station during future summer seasons, and welcome anyone from 18 to 80 years old who is prepared to undertake the necessary training to provide a minimum of two 4 hour Watches each month.

Our second day of training demonstrated the need for the Station, when the first rescue was initiated having spotted a jet ski driver who hit a sand bank resulting with him being catapulted into the water. In response to a call from the station, the Coastguard launched the Criccieth Lifeboat and the man was rescued.

This is the first of many rescues which will be initiated by the Morfa Bychan NCI Watchstation and the volunteers joining the new station's team currently being recruited.

Coastwatch also has stations at Porthdinllaen and Rhoscolyn in the heart of Boatshed North Wales territory. Andy Wood of Boatshed North Wales is a volunteer for Coastwatch, supporting the Morfa Bychan mobile NCI station.
